Ankoor Battles Blazes, And Wins!
On April 20, a bush fire broke out in the field adjacent to the Ankoor Children's Home. The winds were very strong and the fire spread very quickly. Within a few minutes the fire reached our fence. Because our fence is made of bamboo sticks, the fire continued to move to the cow sheds.
Everyone on campus tried to stop the fire with water buckets and pipes. Construction workers also came to the rescue. Some of the fruit trees in the garden were burned.
After five hours, the children and adults were able to stop the fire.
Danny Gaikwad writes: "We praise the Lord that it did not spread to the boys' dormitory and guest house, and that no one was hurt. We are grateful to you for your constant prayers for us."

Two Days Left 'Til "Water For Life"
This is one reason we're raising money to dig wells in India...
And here's another reason... Women and children often walk long distances to find water. This mother and daughter are hauling laundry and drinking water in the remote village of Chandapur, the home village of four of the kids now living at the Ankoor Children's Home.
We talked with Stuti's grandmother, who said she walks two miles hauling water each day. In her old age, it is increasingly difficult for her to manage.Digging wells in the children's home villages will not only meet a basic physical need, but also enable us to share living water.Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." (John 6:35)We've raised $2,300 toward our goal of $10,000.
How can you help? Three ways:
#1--COME to "Zumbathon! Water For Life" this Saturday, May 19 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at CenterPoint Christian Fellowship, 2041 S. 66th Street, Tacoma WA. What is zumba, you might ask? Well, it's a Latin dance-inspired fitness program. Sara Talbot will be leading three 45-minute zumba routines, each followed by a 15-minute break (whew!). Feel free to drop by anytime between 9:00 a.m. and noon for coffee and just to hang out--not everyone has to zumba. But if you're up for it, join one or all of the routines! Light refreshments will be provided. RSVP here. #2--DONATE to the project online, call in your credit card to 253 851 1794, or mail a check to us at 4423 Pt Fosdick Dr NW, Suite 202, Gig Harbor WA 98335.
If you think your donation won't reach us before the weekend, email us or call us to let us know the amount you're pledging, so we can include it in our tally and enter you in the prize drawing.A donation of $25 enters you in a prize drawing for:
* a three-day Carnival cruise for two people (Baja or Bahamas)
* a Viking Professional range ($3,290 value)
* a Viking Professional stand mixer and two hand mixers
* a brewery tour and beer tasting at Wingman Brewers in Tacoma for you and five friends
* a winetasting party at Vino Aquino in Tacoma for you and up to 24 friends
You don't need to be present to win! |

Ankoor Kids Spend One Night In Their Home Village
Four children from the Ankoor Children's Home--Stuti, Sunil, Anil and Michael--had the opportunity to visit their home village of Chandapur on April 23 and 24. They spent one night in their families' huts, and got to go to the beach in Western Maharashtra. The children had never seen the ocean before, so you can imagine how much they loved it! The group also included seven orphans who now live at the Ankoor Children's Home. The trip was relaxing for everyone.

9th Graders Take National Exams
This week, the 9th graders from our Sinkor School in Monrovia, Liberia are sitting for the national exam. They join 54,000 other 9th and 12th graders throughout the country. Last year, 50 out of our 59 9th graders passed this difficult test! Let's pray for them this week. According to the West African Examinations Council, results will be announced June 1st.

Sixty young people attended a three-day Youth For Christ discipleship camp at the Ankoor Children's Home campus from May 6 to 9, 2012. Three districts were represented.
